Anyone remember the old adage, “A friend in need, is a friend indeed?” The concept of surrounding ourselves with community is not new. Did you grow up not only knowing your neighbors socially, but also knowing they were there to help if you needed something? Do you remember going next door to borrow a cup of sugar? It seemed that our neighborhoods were full of helpers and many still are!
Gale began attending the AgingNext Caregiver Support Group meetings over 17 years ago when her father was diagnosed with Leukemia. Shortly after his passing, her mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia and Gale became her caregiver. To better prepare for what lay ahead, Gale became a Certified Gerontologist.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought the need for socialization, no matter your age, to the forefront. Many feel lonely and isolated and are trying to adapt to new ways of engaging with family and friends.
We have all heard the phrase that in life, “change is the only constant”. This has certainly been true the last few months. During these unprecedented times, it is nice to know that the cornerstones of life remain the same.
