My name is Jackie. I worked for Pacific Bell for many years then retired from AT&T after the courts ordered the phone companies to diversify. While working at the phone company, I was invited to join Telephone Pioneers of America. This organization’s volunteers helped in local communities visiting the sick, playing games, crafts, singing and a long list of other activities.

I have traveled the world and experienced things that were wonderful and exciting. I have a large community of family, friends and church members that I enjoy. I am always invited to participate in various festivities.

Although, I have enjoyed many things in life, my passion is helping the elderly. I am so privileged to be a part of AgingNext that allows me to teach, inspire and encourage people who have challenges in everyday life. I enjoy what I am doing and look forward to each opportunity that I am given.

“Caring for others has spiritually enriched and blessed my life giving me real purpose and joy”.

Pam and Charlotte: “AgingNext was our long-awaited gift”

The seventeen months that the Center was closed caused a grave hardship on many families. Caregivers were relied upon to provide daily activities, essential care, and medical assistance for their loved ones 24/7. The unfortunate effect on families was evident by the number of phone calls AgingNext received during this time.

Demystifying the Village

Anyone remember the old adage, “A friend in need, is a friend indeed?” The concept of surrounding ourselves with community is not new. Did you grow up not only knowing your neighbors socially, but also knowing they were there to help if you needed something? Do you remember going next door to borrow a cup of sugar? It seemed that our neighborhoods were full of helpers and many still are!

How much water should you drink each day?

Gale began attending the AgingNext Caregiver Support Group meetings over 17 years ago when her father was diagnosed with Leukemia. Shortly after his passing, her mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia and Gale became her caregiver. To better prepare for what lay ahead, Gale became a Certified Gerontologist.
